3 Step Sparring (Sambo Matsoki)


Attackers start in left walking stance, with obverse low section outer forearm block. When you have both exhaled, you attack your opponent with 3 middle section obverse punches, in walking stance. (Tip - You must punch straight in front of you and aim for your opponent's solar plexus - this is just above where the tiger is on your dobok)


Defenders start in Narani 'Chunbi' Sogi - Parallel ready stance.

 
 

BASIC LEVEL

STEP ONE: Go back with your RIGHT leg in walking stance, using a middle inner forearm block to the inside (3 times).
COUNTER attack - Reverse punch (with the right hand) .

STEP TWO: Go back with your LEFT leg in 'L' stance, using a middle inner forearm block to the outside (3 times).
COUNTER attack - Move your left leg forward 45�, then move the right leg behind your opponents front leg into a 'L' stance, then perform a right knifehand strike to the back of the neck.
(Tip; step over the 'chair', move your right foot towards the left and then put it behind your opponents, finish with the knifehand strike)

STEP THREE: Go back with 'L' stance, using middle inward outer forearm block to the inside (3 times).

COUNTER attack - Move your into left 'L' stance and performa backfist strike to the bridge of the nose.
(Tip; just make sure your don't actually hit your opponent!)

STEP FOUR: Go back with your LEFT leg in 'L' stance, using a middle inner forearm block to the outside (3 times).
COUNTER attack - Move your left leg into a sitting stance, then focus with right hand and perform a double punch to your opponents kidney area.

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL

STEP FIVE: Go back with your RIGHT leg in 'L' stance, using a middle outer forearm block to the inside (2 times).
COUNTER attack - Move to the right into sitting stance, parallel to your opponent. Now perform a left outer forearm block and a high section punch to your opponents jaw.
(Tip; DON'T step back on the 3rd block and when you do perform the counter make sure both moves happen at the same time)

STEP SIX: Go back with your RIGHT leg in 'L' stance, using a middle knifehand block to the inside (2 times).
COUNTER attack - Move to the right into sitting stance, parallel to your opponent. Now perform a left outward knifehand block and a high inward knifehand strike to the side of your opponents� neck.
(Tip; DON'T step back on the 3rd block and when you do perform the counter make sure both moves happen at the same time)

STEP SEVEN: Go back with your right leg in 'L' stance, using a middle outer forearm block to the inside (2 times).
COUNTER attack - Slide back, at a 30� angle into a right 'L' stance with forearm guarding block, then perform a right front kick landing in right walking stance, followed by a double punch to the solar plexus
(Tip; DON'T slide straight backwards or too far, otherwise you'll miss your target and keep your guard up when you kick)

ADVANCED LEVEL

STEP EIGHT: Go back with your right leg in 'L' stance, using a middle knifehand block to the inside (2 times).
COUNTER attack - Slide back, at a 45� angle into a right 'L' stance performing a knifehand guarding block, then perform a right side kick landing in left �L� stance, followed by a right knifehand strike to the neck.
(Tip; DON'T slide straight backwards or too far, otherwise you'll miss your target and keep your guard up when you kick)

STEP NINE: Go back with your right leg in 'L' stance, then perform a middle palm pushing block to the outside (3 times).
COUNTER attack - Slide back, at a 45� angle to the outside of your opponent into a right �L� stance with a knifehand guarding block. Perform a right mid section turning kick to the solar plexus, put the kicking foot behind your opponents front foot landing in vertical stance, whilst executing a knifehand strike to the back of the neck.
(Tip; when you perform the counter make sure that the moves after the kick happen at the same time)

STEP TEN: Go back on your right leg in �L� stance, then perform a middle knifehand block to the inside (2 times).
COUNTER attack - Slide back, at a 45� angle into a right �L� stance with a knifehand guarding block. Perform a reverse side kick with the right leg, then land in a right walking stance, whilst performing a left hand reverse knifehand strike to the opponents philtrum.
(Tip; when you perform the counter make sure that the moves after the kick happen at the same time. The philtrum is found in between the bottom of your nose and the top of you lips)

 

(AFTER GREEN BELT YOU ARE EXPECTED TO REMEMBER 1 TO 10 - SO MAKE SURE YOU PRACTICE REGULARLY. You could be asked at any grading afterwards to perform them)
