Frequently Asked Questions
What age do you have to be?
From 5 years upwards.
What do I need to bring to try out Tae Kwon-do?
You just need to wear comfortable clothing which allows free movement for kicks etc. as well as a drink. We perform Tae kwon-do bare-foot.
Can I just turn up for a trial lesson?
We welcome anyone dropping in to try out Tae kwon-do, although it may be a good idea to contact the instructor to make sure there's no special lessons going on, such as a mock grading, as this wouldn't be the best time for a new starter to come along.
How much does it cost?
Once you've decided that you wish to continue Tae kwon-do after your trial there are some membership and licensing costs. Costs are listed elsewhere on this website but in summary they are as follows:
- monthly fee for lessons (varies by club)
- £28 per grading
- £38 yearly license
- £35 for a training suit
- Packages may be available with the instructor.
When can I buy a suit?
The instructors will want you to attend a few trial lessons first before you commit to buying a suit and start paying lesson and license fees.
Can I attend more than 1 lesson?
Yes but please discuss this with your instructor as there may be additional fees if you train with different instructors.
How often can I grade?
Initially you can grade every 3 months until blue belt, and then every 6 months.
How long would it take to get to black belt?
If you took and passed every grading you could become a black belt in just over 3½ years.
